Who is Amway legend, Bill Britt? He is a North Carolina native who was a City Manager for different cities throughout the state. He had made a bad decision and lost $10,000 in a blue sky scam. He had borrowed the investment money and after three years of struggling to pay it back on his meager salary, he started to look into business opportunities. He eventually came across the Amway opportunity and jumped on board, eager to start a new life.
Bill Britt started his Amway business on April 1, 1970 with the kit he purchased for $25. In today’s dollars, that would be an investment of $143.20.
The Amway Legend, Bill Britt, went to work right away and showed it to nearly 20 people who all turned him away. Bill’s sponsor, Dexter Yager, convinced him to bring six of his Amway kits to a home meeting, and although Bill was hesitant, he finally agreed. That evening, he finally succeeded in building his downline by signing up two couples with the business opportunity.
Within three months, Bill Britt surpassed the 7500 point level by “getting people in faster than they can get out.” He also convinced people to join by persuading them to join immediately and then giving them the option of changing their minds after talking with their spouses. These persuasion techniques worked very well for the Amway legend, as he continued to break sales records for the next 30 years.
The Amway legend created Britt World Wide (BWW) in 1981. BWW was a motivational organization aimed to help his downline succeed with books, tapes, and seminars.
In 1985, Bill Britt was named in a lawsuit with the accusation that he and others were brainwashing new distributors into purchasing enormous amounts of personal development materials. In 1988, the case was settled out of court and a gag order was issued, sealing the details.
Bill Britt was named in an article written in Forbes Magazine that accused them of running their businesses like a cult and making only a few people rich at the expense of others.
In 2001, Bill Britt invested $5 million in Cornerstone Management where he was promised by two dealers a 10% monthly return on his money. It was a bad investment. Two years later, the dealers were arrested in North Carolina and the case is described as being the largest fraud case in the states history.
In 2002, Bill Britt qualified for the Founders Crown Ambassador, which is the highest award one can achieve. Five years later, Bill Britt served as a Presidents Cabinet Representative on the International Board of the Independent Business Owners Association (IBOA.)
Today, there are more than 2 million Amway distributors. Many people say that their success is directly linked to the strong business foundation that Bill Britt built. Throughout his career, Bill held home meetings, hotel conferences, and weekend events. He also has one of the most successful personal development companies worldwide. Each week, millions of tapes, book, and other training materials are sent to his Amway downline.
