MLM Pyramid

It really surprises me these days that people are still using the term “MLM Pyramid” in a way to avoid the success that they can achieve with a little hard work, when compared to working the rest of their lives at a job and having zero or little in the bank at the end.

At one point in time, MLM’s were opening their doors for business, but they never offered a product or service, therefore it was considered a pyramid scheme.  Common sense would tell you that if a business started, but didn’t have any products or services to offer, then it would not be a legit business in the first place!

However, there are still crooked people in this world trying to get away with pyramid schemes, but there is good news.  The FTC is quick to sniff out these scammers and will shut them down within a year of the business being opened.  Also, many people have gotten burned in the past, so they are quick to red flag any business opportunity that doesn’t pass the “legit business” test which can be performed by asking some of these questions:

  • How long has this opportunity been in business?
  • Is someone I trust in this business?
  • Does this business have information on the owner(s)?
  • How do the Terms and Conditions read for this business?
  • What product does this business sell?
  • What service does this business offer?
  • Does this business have an Earnings Disclaimer?

If the questions can’t be answered in a satisfactory way, then it is best to pass on the MLM opportunity (possible scam).

I’ve been in this industry long enough to know that there are better opportunities than others, but I also don’t use the term “MLM pyramid” anymore.  I educated myself on the research I needed to do, and then based my decisions off of logical and common sense thinking of what makes a business legit.  Because most business structures are in the form of a pyramid, brick and mortar corporations to internet companies, the terminology is outdated anyway.

Nowadays, if someone tells me that home businesses are MLM pyramids, I know deep down that they haven’t educated themselves to the concept and probably don’t even realize that their job is structured as a pyramid as well…with their boss above them and maybe having other workers below them (pyramid shape).  These people are trained to work 45 years of their lives and will have nothing to show for it, but at least they can call legit opportunities scams or pyramids to make themselves feel better.
