Herbalife is a health and wellness company founded by Mark Hughes in 1980. Herbalife is one of a handful of companies that is traded on a major stock exchange. The company has a presence in over 80 countries and has a global network of over 2 million reps, known as Herbalife Independent Distributors.

Mark Hughes founded Herbalife out of the trunk of his car in 1980. Current CEO is Michael O. Johnson, who is a former Disney executive. Because of the longevity of this company and the fact that they do over one billion USD in sales annually, it’s not hard to see that there are a lot of “Herbalife Millionaires”.
Compensation Plan Highlights:
Herbalife, like many other older, established MLM’s uses a “stairstep breakaway” compensation plan. These plans can be slightly confusing for new reps, and you need to make sure you understand exactly how the plan works if you’re going to build this into a full-time business.
Sources of Leads:
Since Herbalife was slow to build corporate websites for their members, you’ll see a lot of independent companies like The Herbal Nutrition Network that provide tools and services to Herbalife. These smaller companies are known to funnel local leads to distributors, so you should investigate them if you are looking for local leads. “What does MLM stand for”?
I’m glad you asked! MLM Stands for:
Multi-Level-Marketing
If you don’t know what that means, keep reading. You see multi-level-marketing at times has a bad stigma attached to it, but it’s actually a lot like affiliate marketing, with one important twist.
You see, with affiliate marketing, you earn a commission every time you refer someone to buy a product. MLM is the same… except you can also earn a percentage of those in your DOWNLINE. Your downline is comprised of the people whom you personally bring into your network marketing company.
As your sales team grows, you actually begin to earn income on the efforts of others. This is the advantage that MLM has over affiliate marketing, in my opinion. With affiliate marketing, if you stop selling items, you stop earning income. With MLM, it’s possible to build a team that pays you a long-term residual income even after you stop working the business.
However, as I stated earlier, MLM has a bad reputation with a lot of people, probably because of a negative experience with a company. You see, MLM is not “get rich quick”. It takes a lot of time and effort to build a successful MLM business.
